A new method for deprotecting tetrahydropyranyl and silyl ethers has been established by using organotin phosphate condensates as a catalyst. The reaction proceeds selectively under mild conditions. The heterogenous reaction enables easy separation of the catalyst, which can be reused for further reactions without purification.

The invention is a preparation process of alkylcyclohexanol alkylene oxide adduct which contains almost no alkylphenol alkylene oxide adduct 1) in the absence of a solvent, 2) in the presence of a saturated hydrocarbon solvent, or 3) in the presence of water.
The invention can prepare alkylcyclohexanol alkylene oxide having a 200 ppm or less content of alkylphenol and alkylphenol alkylene oxide adduct. The alkylcyclohexanol alkylene oxide adduct obtained in the process of the invention has less ultraviolet absorption and fluorescence due to alkylphenol alkylene oxide adduct and is thus useful for spectrometric analysis of protein and further has excellent properties in the field of detergent and other common uses of surface active agents.

4-Octyl-cyclohexanol, 4-Octyl-cyclohexanol-carbonsäureester, 4-Octyl-cyclohexanol-methyläther, 4-Octyl-cyclohexanon sowie 4-Octyl-cyclohexanal als neue Octyl-cyclohexanderivate.
4-Octyl-cyclohexanol erhält man in an sich bekannter Weise durch katalytische Hydrierung von 7-Octyl-phenol, seine Ester und den Methyläther durch Veresterung bzw. Methylierung.
Das erhaltene 4-Octyl-cyclohexanol läßt sich durch Dehydrieren in an sich bekannter Weise in das 4-Octyl-cyclohexanon überführen, aus welchem durch Umsetzen mit Halogenessigestern der Glycidester und aus diesem durch alkalische Hydrolyse und anschließende Säurespaltung das 4-Octyl-cyclohexanal hergestellt werden kann.
Die 4-Octyl-cyclohexanderivate können als Duftstoffe mit holzartigen Geruchsnoten in kosmetischen Zubereitungen aller Art sowie in Wasch- und Reinigungsmitteln oder als Duftverbesserer in Leimen, Anstrichsmitteln und ähnlichen technischen Erzeugnissen verwendet werden.
