Singley oxygen in synthesis. Formation of antimycin A3 from an oxazole template

Antimycin A3 has been synthesized using an oxazole template for constructing the framework of the dilactone. Formation of the nine-membered ring was accomplished by reaction of an ω-hydroxyl group with an activated carboxylate generated in the reaction of the oxazole with singlet oxygen.
