Two modes of coordination of hexafluoropropane-2,2-diol to transition-metal ions (Ni 2+ , Cu 2+ , Mn 2+ , Co 3+ , Pd 2+ , Pt 2+ ) have been found. The diionized gem-diol can form a four-membered chelate ring with amine or phosphine coligands to give neutral complexes L n MOC(CF 3 ) 2 O.
