N-aryl pyrazoles: DFT calculations of CH acidity and deprotonative metallation using a combination of lithium and zinc amides

A series of N-aryl and N-heteroaryl pyrazoles have been deproto-metallated using a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino-based mixed lithium–zinc combination. Mono-, di-, and tri-iodides have been obtained after subsequent trapping with iodine, depending on the substrate and on the quantity of base used. The results have been discussed in the light of the CH acidities of the substrates, determined both in the gas phase and in THF solution using the DFT B3LYP method.

The microwave-assisted, cuprous oxide catalyzed coupling of aryl bromides and iodides with imidazole, benzimidazole, pyrazole, or triazole was found to give a wide range of N-aryl heteroaromatic products in good to high yields. Aryl dibromides undergo selective monosubstitution even in the presence of large excess of N-heterocyclic nucleophiles which leaves the second aryl bromide functionality intact for further derivatization.

Synthesis of platinum(II) di(2-pyrazolyl)benzene chloride and analogs includes forming a 1,3-di-substituted benzene including two aromatic five-membered heterocycles, and reacting the 1,3-di-substituted benzene with an acidic platinum-containing solution to form a luminescent platinum(II) complex. The luminescent platinum(II) complex is capable of emitting blue and white light and can be used as an emitter in a light emitting device.
