General and convenient TsOH-induced allylboration of ketones

of α‐methylene‐γ‐lactones through the palladium(II)‐catalyzed lactonization of homoallylic alcohols with alkynamides has been reported. The hydroxyl group in the terminal olefins cooperates with the amide in alkynamides to promote the cyclization by suppressing the β‐H elimination. This process provides a route to construct naturally occurring biologically multifunctional α‐methylene‐γ‐lactones.

Novel enantioselective catalysis involving a Pd(II)âPd(IV) cycle was developed by utilizing a SPRIX ligand. Treatment of alkenyl alcohols with a catalytic amount of PdâSPRIX and TfOH in the presence of PhI(OAc)2 gave optically active 3-oxy-tetrahydrofuran derivatives in good yields.

The Lewis acid-promoted addition of allyl(cyclopentadienyl)iron(II) dicarbonyl (1) to unactivated ketones provides zwitterionic iron-olefin complexes 5 as isolable salts. Treatment of these complexes with NaI in wet acetone affords homoallylic alcohols in good to excellent overall yields.
