It is suggested that the complexes have an essentially linear RHgX group with the second halide much more weakly attached in the equatorial plane.

  The extraction of organomercury(II)(RHg+, R; ethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, phenyl) with 8-quinolinol into benzene has been studied by means of spectrophotometry. This study confirmed that there was no co-extraction of electrically neutral species RHgOH by its investigation of the effect of the pH on the extraction of ethylmercury(II) chloride into benzene.
