Aerobic Ru-catalyzed direct C2-olefination of N-heteroarenes with alkenes directed by a removable N-dimethylcarbamoyl group

A highly efficient and selective Ru-catalyzed direct C2-olefination of indoles, pyrroles, and carbazoles assisted by a removable N-dimethylcarbamoyl group has been developed by using O2 as the terminal oxidant. Both electron-deficient and unactivated alkenes are applicable to the protocol.
A Cu-catalyzed intramolecular C-H amination for the synthesis of carbazoles has been developed. The key to success is the installation of the picolinamide-based directing group, which is spontaneously removed after the coupling event. The Cu catalysis proceeded smoothly under Pd- and I(III)-free conditions, and its mild oxidation aptitude enables the rapid and concise construction of heteroatom-incorporated carbazole core pi-systems.

Study on Palladium(II)-Catalyzed Mono-1-alkenylation of 9H-Carbazoles
A general and efficient method is reported for the direct mono-1-alkenylation of 9H-carbazole molecules with divalent palladium as a catalyst and an N-(2-pyridyl)sulfanyl directing group. This method also provides an efficient synthetic route for the synthesis of cross-dialkenylated carbazoles.
