Abstract Using IR spectroscopy, evidence has been obtained that organometalliccompounds of transition metals (metallocenes, arenemetaltricarbonyls) and of non-transition elements (alkyl derivatives of II–V group elements) are capable of forming unstable complexes with small molecules (N 2 , O 2 , H 2 , CH 4 ), which can be stabilized at low temperatures.
