Efficient syntheses of two potentially useful optically active macroheterocycles with esters and dihydrazides of 2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic and adipic acids starting from available natural L-menthol and passing through intermediate 8-hydroxy-2,6R-dimethyloctan-3-one were developed.
