A versatile NHC-catalyzed method has been developed for synthesizing ketones from alcohols and carboxylic acid derivatives through SET (single electrontransfer) between photoexcited xanthates and acyl azoliums. This approach further facilitates the generation of structurally diverse cross-coupled ketones by incorporating alkenes and enynes.
