A wide range of novel 2-(β-D-ribofuranosyl)pyrimidines, including RF-containing derivatives, have been synthesized by the reaction of (β-D-ribofuranosyl)formamidine with various dielectrophilic substrates such as 3-alkoxy- and 3-chloro-1-(polyfluoroalkyl)propen-1-ones, 3-nitro- and 3-(phenylethynyl)chromones and heteroaryl acetylenic ketones.
Compounds, compositions and methods for modulating the activity of nuclear receptors are provided. In particular, heterocyclic compounds are provided for modulating the activity of nuclear receptors, including liver X receptor (LXR) and orphan nuclear receptors. In certain embodiments, the compounds are N-substituted pyridones.

Reaction of (alkyloxycarbonyl)- and (benzoyl)-methylenetriphenylphosphoranes with fluorine-containing diazodiketones leads to olefination of the perfluoroacyl carbonyl group and formation of fluorinated vinyldiazoketones. The analogous reaction with non-fluorinated diazodiketones does not proceed under the same conditions. The resulting fluorine-containing vinyldiazoketones have an E-configuration regardless of the nature and size of the substituents.

A number of new fluorinated and non-fluorinated glycosides of 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridin-3(2H)-ones were synthesized by direct attachment of the carbohydrate moiety to the heterocycle using the silyl Hilbert-Jones glycosylationmethod.
