    Dibromocyclopropanes, prepared by addition of dibromocarbene to cyclic olefins, give unsaturated ketones, with ring expansion, when treated with silver sulphate in concentrated sulphuric acid at room temperature. Mild hydrogenation of a dibromocyclopropane gave equivalent amounts of the monobromocyclopropane and of a ring-opened bromine-free compound.

    A method for producing an &agr;,&agr;-difluorocycloalkane at high purity with good efficiency, which comprises a step of treating a fluorocycloalkene with hydrogen fluoride wherein the fluorocycloalkene has one fluorine atom directly bonded to a carbon atom of carbon-carbon unsaturated double bond, more preferably, a step of directly adding the hydrogen fluoride to a reaction mixture obtained by treating the cycloalkanone with the de-oxygen fluorinating agent.

    Solvolysis of 4-methylcyclohexylidenemethyl(phenyl)iodonium tetrafluoroborate (1) and its R isomer (69% ee) was carried out in 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE) and 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropropan-2-ol (HFP) in the presence of bases such as acetate, pyridine, triethylamine, and alkoxide. The reaction is much faster in TFE than in HFP. Products in TFE include solely un-rearranged (racemized) enol ether 2 together with iodobenzene, while the main product in HFP is ring-expanded (partially racemized) 1-alkoxycycloheptene 3. Results show that 2 is formed via α-elimination with alkylidenecarbene as an intermediate, while the reaction in HFP to give 3 involves a cycloheptyne intermediate that is mostly derived from an intermediate cyclohept-1-enyl cation via the E1-type pathway.

    Provided is a conditioner composition, which comprises a tertiary amine represented by the following formula (1): 1 wherein, R 1 represents a linear or branched C 6-24 alkyl or alkenyl group, R 2 and R 3 are the same or different and each represents a C 1-6 alkyl group or a group —(AO) n H (in which A represents a C 2-4 alkylene group, and n stands for a number of from 1 to 6 with the proviso that n pieces of A are the same or different and are arranged in any order); or a salt thereof. The conditioner composition can impart fiber or hair with good suppleness and smoothness during wetting and after drying and is particularly excellent in imparting hair or fiber with smoothness after drying.
