    A novel use of D-psicose (for suppressing the abnormal intra-day increase of blood glucose level) is provided. A composition containing D-psicose as the active component and for use in suppressing the abnormal intra-day increase of plasma glucose concentration. The composition is a composition in blend with D-psicose and/or a derivative thereof. The composition is in a form selected from sweeteners, seasonings, food additives, food materials, food and drink products, health food and drink products, pharmaceutical products, and feeds and blended with D-psicose, and/or a derivative thereof as the active component, for use in preventing and therapeutically treating diseases requiring the saving of insufficient insulin, the amelioration of insulin sensitivity and the amelioration of hyperglycemia, and/or diseases of which the symptoms can be ameliorated via the suppression of the abnormal intra-day increase of plasma glucose concentration or of which the onset can be prevented via the suppression thereof, such as diabetes mellitus, occult diabetic states, obesity, hyperglycemia, and/or arteriosclerosis. A method for using D-psicose in suppressing the abnormal intra-day increase of plasma glucose concentration, comprising giving D-psicose at given times to suppress the abnormal increase of plasma glucose concentration throughout the day.

    [Problem] To provide: a polymer electrolyte composition that has excellent chemical stability that makes it possible to withstand a strong oxidizing atmosphere during fuel cell operation, that makes it possible to achieve excellent protonic conductivity under low humidity conditions, excellent mechanical strength, and excellent physical durability, and that is highly practical; and a polymer electrolyte membrane, a membrane-electrode assembly, and a solid polymer fuel cell that use the polymer electrolyte composition. [Solution] A polymer electrolyte composition that comprises at least an ionic group-containing polymer (A), an organic phosphorus-based additive (C), and a nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring system additive (D) and that is characterized by the nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic ring system additive (D) comprising at least three nitrogen-containing heteroaromatic rings within a molecule thereof. In addition, the polymer electrolyte membrane, the catalyst layer-equipped electrolyte membrane, the membrane-electrode assembly, and the solid polymer fuel cell of the present invention are characterized by being configured using the polymer electrolyte composition.

    A method for directed evolution in a microbe, the method comprising: introducing into a first host cell a propagation deficient phage genome and a vector comprising a target gene sequence to be mutated and a phage propagation component responsive to induce lysis of the first host cell and to provide for propagation of the phage genome; exposing the first host cell to a mutagenesis agent; inducing lysis of the first host cell and phage propagation to produce a lysate comprising phage particles comprising the target gene sequence; and infecting a second host cell with the lysate. Systems and kits for practicing the method are also disclosed.
