    2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3 of high purity is produced from 1,2,3,4-tetrachlorobutane by a process comprising the steps of dehydrochlorination, chlorination of the reaction product obtained in the dehydrochlorination step and subsequent separation of a 2,3-dichlorobutadiene-1,3 composition from the reaction product of the chlorination step.

    The present invention relates to an improved process for the production of 2,3-Dichloro 1,3-Butadiene which comprises Chlorinating Butadiene, in liquid phase, in the presence of chlorinated solvents & phase transfer catalyst, Distilling the solvent, Distilling the formed 3,4-dichlorobutene-1, 1,4-dichlorobutene-2; and 1,2,3,4-Tetrachlorbutane; under reduced pressure,chlorinating the separated 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 and 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 to give 1,2,3,4-Tetrachlorobutane.,double Dehydrochlorinating the 1,2,3,4-Tetrachlorobutane using methanol,alkali and inhibitors under atmosphere of 1% oxides of nitrogen in nitrogen atmosphere the total period of Dehydrochlorinating being in the range of 15-33 hours to give 2,3-Dichloro 1,3-Butadiene and separating methanol to get 2,3-Dichloro 1,3-Butadiene

    A process for the preparation of a cyclobutanone of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 to R.sup.6 each independently is a hydrogen, halogen, cyano, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carboxamido, dialkylphosphono, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or alkenyl radical, or two of them together with the carbon atom to which each is linked form a ring, comprising reacting an N,N-disubstituted carboxylic acid amide of the formula ##STR2## in which R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 each independently is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl radical or together form a ring, with an inorganic acid halide, and then reacting the product with a tertiary amine, an olefin of the formula ##STR3## and a Lewis acid, and subsequently hydrolyzing the mass. Preferably isobutyric acid dimethylamide is employed as the carboxylic acid amide, phosgene is employed as the inorganic acid halide, triethylamine is employed as the tertiary amine and zinc chloride or titanium tetrachloride is employed as the Lewis acid. The products are known intermediates for insecticides.

    Purified chlorinated alkenes are produced by a process in which a mixture of i) a first chlorinated alkene that has at least one beta-chlorine substituent and no alpha-chlorine substituents and ii) a second chlorinated alkene that has at least one alpha-chlorine substituent is contacted with chlorine in an amount sufficient to further chlorinate the second chlorinated alkene, but which is insufficient to cause conversion of more than 20% of the first chlorinated alkene. The resultant reaction product may be easily enriched to provide a chlorinated alkene product wherein a) the weight percentage of chlorinated alkenes having at least one beta-chlorine substituent and no alpha-chlorine substituents, based on the total weight of the chlorinated alkenes present in the enriched chlorinated alkene product compared to b) the weight percentage of chlorinated alkenes having at least one beta-chlorine substituent and no alpha-chlorine substituents, based on the total weight of the chlorinated alkenes present in the mixture prior to chlorination is increased by at least 0.25 wt. %.

    Treatment of gem-dichlorocyclopropanecarboxylic acids with SF4 yields many rearranged products, i.e. 1,1-difluoro-substituted olefins. The mechanism of the rearrangement is discussed.
