The invention relates to novel sulfooxy alkanoates surfactants
in which a portion of the surfactant molecule has a so-called "benefit reagent" function, and compositions containing these surfactants. It is believed that this benefit reagent portion comes to play when the surfactant metabolized or hydrolyzed.
The surfactants used in these compositions are calcium ion insensitive, show mildness benefits and foam well. Thus the surfactants have been demonstrated to be useful surfactant in addition to delivering a beneficial reagent.

Development of Lactic Ester as Bifunctional Additive of Methanol-Gasoline

In this paper, lactic esters were synthesized and used as phase stabilizer and saturation vapor pressure depressor of methanol-gasoline. The results show that the stabilities of the methanol-gasoline depend on the length of the lactic esters alkoxy group. Several lactic esters were found to be effective in various gasoline-methanol blends, and the lactic esters display high capacity to depress the saturation vapor pressure of methanol-gasoline. According to the results, it can be concluded that the lactic esters have the great potential to be bifunctional gasoline-methanol additives.

α,β-Epoxy esters were rapidly reduced at room temperature to yield β-hydroxy esters with retention of the configurations at the β-carbon atoms by using SmI2-THF-HMPA system in the presence of N,N-dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE). The conditions were successfully applied to the synthesis of vinylogous δ-hydroxy esters.
