This invention relates to compositions and methods for improving the adhesion of textile substrates to rubber or rubber-containing materials. Also encompassed herein are articles that contain textile substrates treated with such compositions. The composition generally comprises at least one phenol compound, at least one aldehyde compound, and at least one fluorocarbon-containing compound. The composition provides: (a) improved adhesion between textile substrates treated with the composition and rubber materials and (b) anti-wicking properties to end-use articles containing the treated substrates.

A method of manufacturing of 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) by oxidising 5-(acetoxymethyl)furfural (AcHMF) in a heated reaction mixture and in the presence of bromide, comprising a solvent containing dissolved oxygen and at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of Co(II) or Ce(III) salts.
The process is carried out preferably at T=80-130 °C and 800-1000 psi.
Acetic acid is the preferred solvent.
