The present disclosure provides compounds, compositions, and methods for use of the compounds. The compounds are N-phenyl or N-benzyl enaminones. The compositions can be pharmaceutical compositions. For example, the compounds/compositions are used in treating seizure disorders. The methods entail administering a composition comprising one or more of the compounds to a subject in need thereof. Articles of manufacture comprising one or more of the compounds/compositions are also provided.

Bei der Hydrierung von 3,5‐Dihydroxybenzylalkohol (5) mit Raney‐Nickel entsteht ein Gemisch aus 5‐Hydroxymethyldihydroresorcin (6) und 5‐Methyldihydroresorcin (8); in Spuren ist außer‐dem 5‐Methylresorcin (= Orcin, 7) nachweisbar. Die Struktur von 6 wird durch die unabhängige Reaktionsfolge 9 → 16 bewiesen, wobei 6 aus dessen Benzylether 16 durch selektive Hydrogenolyse entsteht.

Résumé Tris-hydroxymethylaminomethane has been demonstrated to be an efficient organocatalyst in diversity-oriented synthesis of medicinally prevalent spirochromenes by one-pot, three-component reactions between isatins, malononitrile, and enolizable CH acids like dimedone, 4-hydroxycoumarin, 4-hydroxy-N-methylquinolin-2-one, or in situ generated 2-methylpyrazolon-2-one. Biodegradability and extremely low cost of the catalyst are the noteworthy features of this chromatography-free protocol.
