The reaction of the tertiary phosphites (RO)3P (R = Ph, 4-MeC6H4, 4-ButC6H4, 2,4-But2C6H3, 2,6-Me2C6H3, 2,4,6-Me3C6H2 or 2-PhC6H4) with one and two mole equivalents of diiodine has been investigated. In all cases the tetra-iodide compounds (RO)3PI4 were isolated regardless of the stoichiometry employed.
