1,3-Diketones from Acid Chlorides and Ketones: A Rapid and General One-Pot Synthesis of Pyrazoles

[reaction: see text] 1,3-Diketones were synthesized directly from ketones and acidchlorides and were then converted in situ into pyrazoles by the addition of hydrazine. This method is extremely fast, general, and chemoselective, allowing for the synthesis of previously inaccessible pyrazoles and synthetically demanding pyrazole-containing fused rings.

A metal-free Bu4NI mediated oxidative reaction utilizing tertiaryaliphaticamines and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds for the synthesis of methylene-bridgedbis-1,3-dicarbonyl compounds has been developed. This reaction involved an unexpected C–C bond cleavage of tertiaryaliphaticamines. With this approach, the completely regioselective functionalization of β-carbon on tertiaryamines was realized.
A metal-free PhI(OAc)2-mediated method for the synthesis of acyl azides through oxidative cleavage of 1,3-diketones is described. This method is shown to have a broad substrate scope, providing a useful tool for multiproduct synthesis in a single procedure. A possible reaction pathway is proposed based on mechanistic studies.
