Herein, we report synergistic copper/amine-catalyzed reactions for directly α-benzylating carbonyl compounds with arylacetic acids. These reactions represent the first examples of decarboxylative oxidative synergistic transition-metal/enamine catalysis for α-functionalizing carbonyl compounds.
