A cyclic hexadepsipeptide containing alternatively N-methyl-L-isoleucine and D-α-hydroxy-isovaleric acid (Fig. 1) has been synthesized. It proved to be identical with Enniatin A, a microbiologically active metabolite isolated in 1947 from Fusarium oxysporum SCHLECHT.
