The new dibenzoylmethane derivatives of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 denotes hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and R.sup.2 denotes methyl or ethyl and R.sup.3 represents a straight-chain or branched lower alkyl radical, can be prepared by reacting acetophenone derivatives with an anisic ester or by reacting a substituted benzoic ester with p-methoxyacetophenone. R1 Wasserstoff, Methyl oder Ethyl und
