of this reaction is not the cyclopropanone derivative “keto-thujane” as reported in the old literature; instead a mixture of menthone, isomenthone, 2-alkoxy- and 4-alkoxy-menthones (major constituent) and p-menthene-3-ones is formed. The Clemmensen reduction of this mixture led only to menthanes and menthenes instead of the cyclopropane derivative, thujane, reported previously. Analogous products were
