    The synthesis of a series of 2-substituted thiazole-4-carboxamides of 3-aminopropyldimethylsulfonium chloride is described and the proton nmr spectral assignments of these derivatives are made. The compounds, which are fragments and analogs of the DNA-binding portion of the antitumor antibiotic bleomycin A2, will serve as probes of structure-activity relationships in this family of drugs.

    The synthesis of three 2,4′-bithiazole derivatives related to the antibiotic antitumor bleomycin is reported. These compounds substituted by aminoalkyl chains on 2′ and/or 4-positions were prepared by the Hantzs synthesis between new thioamides and methyl 2-(2-bromoacetyl)thiazole-4-carboxylate and will be useful for the study of the intercalative moiety of bleomycin.

    Dimethyl micrococcinate is shown to have the molecular formula C24H17N5O5S4 and to consist probably of a pyridine ring and four thiazole rings with two ester functions, a carbonyl group, and an ethyl group. The ultraviolet absorption spectra of dimethyl micrococcinate and of 2,6-bis-(4′-methoxycarbonyl-2′,4-bithiazolyl-2-yl)pyridine show striking similarity in alcoholic and acid solutions.
