We have developed Pd-catalyzed oxidativecyclization reactions of a wide range of azulene-2-carboxylic acids with a large number of activated as well as unactivated 1,3-dienes, consequently allowing a streamlined synthetic method for the selective preparation of monosubstituted alkenyl dihydroazulenolactones and their derivatives.
