systematic study led to a method for the preparation of (Z)-4-(trimethylsilyl)-3-buten-2-ol (2) in at least 99% purity by the reduction of the alkyne 4-(trimethylsilyl)-3-butyn-2-ol (1) with lithiumaluminiumhydride (LAH) as a clear solvate in ether.
The oxymercuration—demercuration of alkenylsilanes in aqueous tetrahydrofuran

The oxymercuration—demercuration (OM—DM) of representative trimethylsilylalkenes in aqueous tetrahydrofuran was investigated. Vinyltrimethylsilane gives only the anti-Markovnikov alcohol, 2-trimethylsilylethanol in 90% yield. Allyltrimethylsilane gives mainly allylmercuric acetate which reacts further to give a 1,3-dimercurated-2-propanol. This species reacts slowly with allyltrimethylsilane to give
electrocatalytic strategy for the cyclopropanation of activemethylenecompounds, employing an organic catalyst. The method shows a broad substrate scope and excellent scalability, requires no metal catalyst or external chemical oxidant, and provides convenient access to several types of cyclopropane-fused heterocyclic and carbocyclic compounds. Mechanistic investigations suggest that the reactions
