  The intermediates generated by DIBALH reduction of α-amino acid esters undergo condensation without racemization with silyl ketene acetals and allylstannane in the presence of Lewis acid to afford the corresponding β-hydroxy esters and homoallylic alcohols in good yields while achieving high syn selectivity via an aluminum-assisted chelation control.

  In the presence of BF3.OEt(2) (0.2 molar equiv), the reactions (-10 degrees C, CH2Cl2) of N-Cbz-alpha-amino aldehydes with allyltrimethylsilane produced pyrrolidines in good yields (70-80%), with high all-cis stereoselectivity at the C12, C-3, and C-5 positions, along with small amounts of the expected homoallylic alcohols.

  Diastereoselective titanium-catalysed epoxidation reactions of acyclic homoallylic alcohols are presented. The results are compared to the stereochemical outcome obtained by the application of the commonly used vanadium catalyst, VO(acac)(2).
