    Provided is a method for producing a compound represented by Formula (III) while the production of by-products due to, for example, dimerization of a raw material or isomerization of a double bond position is suppressed. The method is a method for producing omega-hydroxy fatty acid ester and a precursor compound thereof of Formula (III), in which an alcohol derivative and a carboxylic acid derivative are subjected to a metathesis reaction in the presence of a catalyst to obtain a compound of Formula (III), wherein the alcohol derivative is at least one selected from the group consisting of a compound of Formula (VI) and a compound of Formula (I), and the carboxylic acid derivative is at least one selected from the group consisting of a compound of Formula (VII) and a compound of Formula (II), wherein the case where the alcohol derivative is formed of a compound of Formula (I) and the carboxylic acid derivative is formed of a compound of Formula (II) is excluded,

    Six ω-hydroxy acids have been converted to macrocyclic lactones by treatment with cyanuric chloride and triethylamine in acetone at room temperature. The mechanism apparently involves activation of both the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups.

    CYP153A from Marinobacter aquaeolei has been identified as a fatty acid ω-hydroxylase with a broad substrate range. Two hotspots predicted to influence substrate specificity and selectivity were exchanged. Mutant G307A is 2- to 20-fold more active towards fatty acids than the wild-type. Residue L354 is determinant for the enzyme ω-regioselectivity.

    Described herein are formulations and methods of reducing spoilage in harvested produce by reducing the rate of water or mass loss, thereby resulting in high quality produce with lower rates of spoilage. The present disclosure provides coatings and methods of coating produce to prevent moisture loss from produce during storage and shipment of the produce. This in turn allows the produce to be shipped and stored at lower relative humidity (e.g., lower than industry standards for shipment and storage, or lower than about 90% relative humidity), which can help delay the growth of biotic stressors such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, and/or pests.

    Preparation of (E)- and (Z)-16-hydroxy-9-hexadecenoic acids and erythro-aleuritic acid starting from naturally occurring aleuritic acid, is described. 16-Hydroxy-(Z)-9-hexadecenoic acid and jalaric acid have been selectively condensed to furnish the naturally occurring jalaric xxxter-I. The possible importance of this compound in the elaboration of lac resin by the insect is pointed out.
