Enol silyl ethers of acetophenones and acetylpyridines are oxidized to hydroxymethyl aryl ketones (Ï-hydroxyacetophenones) and hydroxyacetylpyridines, respectively, using the system iodosobenzene/boron trifluoride etherate/water.
