A method for initiating and bonding thin films on substrates is described. The method employs an interlayer comprising a self-assembling monolayer (SAM). The SAM is formed from monomers, one end of which are capable of bonding to the substrate, and the other end of which form a surface similar to, and capable of initiating the formation of a film.
Additionally, compositions for monomers, methods for SAM formation, and methods for film formation are disclosed. In a preferred embodiment the thin film is comprised of diamond.

Polymer blends comprise at least one ethylene/α-olefin interpolymer and one or more oil. The oil can be an aromatic oil, napththenic oil, paraffinic oil or a combination thereof. The ethylene/α-olefin interpolymers are random block copolymers comprising at least a hard block and at least a soft block. The resulting blends can be used to make flexible molded articles.
The present invention provides compounds that have an amide linkage and at least two epoxy groups. The compounds are preferably aliphatic.

An optical article is disclosed comprised of an organic layer unit exhibiting a second order polarization susceptibility greater than 10-9 esu and means for providing an optical input to and an optical output from the layer unit. The organic layer unit exhibits a transmission attenuation of less than 2 dB/cm and is comprised of a Y type Langmuir-Blodgett assembly having superimposed oriented monomolecular layers of first and second polymeric amphiphiles each containing repeating units comprised of a hydrophilic moiety and a lipophilic moiety. Repeating units of one or both of the first and second amphiphiles each contain an organic molecular dipole, and repeating units of one or both of the first and second amphiphiles each contains a branched lipophilic moiety of up to 9 carbon atoms.

The back sheet of the invention is a back sheet for solar cell module, including a water-impermeable sheet and a film. The film is disposed on at least one side of the water-impermeable sheet and is formed from a coating containing a fluorine-containing copolymer. The fluorine-containing copolymer contains a C2-C3 perhaloolefin structural unit, a vinyl acetate structural unit, a hydroxy-containing vinyl monomer structural unit, and a carboxy-containing monomer structural unit.
