1,4-Dimethyl-2,3,5,6-tetraoxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane and several similar alkyl-derivatives were synthesized applying two different strategies. Crystal structures of the compounds were determined and their energetic properties including sensitivities towards impact, friction and electrostatic discharge as well as their thermal behaviour were determined and compared to tricacetone triperoxide (TATP).
