  Using 1,1,6-trimethyl-2-carbethoxy-cyclohexan-3-one as starting material, 6-methyl-γ-cyclogeranic ester, 6-methyl-γ-cyclogeraniol, and 6-methyl-γ-cyclocitral have been synthesized. 6-Methyl-γ-cyclocitral, condensed with acetone, led to a mixture of about equal parts of 6-methyl-γ- and 6-methyl-b̃-ionone (γ- and β-irone). The two ketones have been separated by means of their phenylsemicarbazones.
