Polymers having amine-thiol terminal moieties are provided. The amine-thiol terminal moieties are imparted by using amine-thiols as chain transfer agents in aqueous addition polymerizations.
The polymers are useful as mineral dispersants, as water-treatment additives for boiler waters, cooling towers, reverse osmosis applications, sugar refining, paper production, geothermal processes and oil wells, and as detergent additives acting as builders, anti-filming agents, dispersants, sequestering agents and encrustation inhibitors.

Disclosed is a method for quantitatively identifying polymers in an aqueous system using immunoassay techniques, wherein at least a portion of the polymers contain a detectable terminus. This is particularly useful in water treatment systems. Also disclosed are new hybridoma cell lines which express MAbs which specifically recognize such a detectable terminus.
There is provided a method for identifying the color intensities of red lines on a white test strip, comprising the steps of
(A) attaching said white test strip to a card that is larger and darker than said white test strip,
(B) scanning said card with said attached white test strip,
(C) creating a digital image of said card, wherein each pixel in said digital image has a Red value, a Green value, and a Blue value,
(D) using said digital image to calculate a color intensity for each red line on said white test strip.

The disclosure relates to a method for quantitatively measuring concentration in an aqueous solution of a water soluble polymer that is functionalized with at least one tracer, wherein the method involves impregnating a flow assay with a test area, introducing the flow assay into a test reader, and using the test reader to compare test data to a calibration curve so as to determine the concentration of the water-soluble polymer. This method allows the determination of residuals concentration in aqueous solution recovered from different industries, including oil and gas produced water, mining fluids, industrial water systems, and water treatment applications.
