Abstract Three minor carotenoids were isolated from the seed coat of Bixa orellana fruits by chromatographic (CC, TLC, HPLC) methods. The structures were established as 6-geranylgeranyl 8′-methyl-6,8′-diapocaroten-6,8′-dioate, 6-geranylgeranyl 6′-methyl (9′ Z )-6,6′-diapocaroten-6,6′-dioate and 6-geranylgeranyl 6′-methyl-6,6′-diapocaroten-6,6′-dioate by means of UV–visible, 1 H - and 13 C -NMR spectroscopy
