The 2,2-dimethyl substituted 1,3-diradicals possess significantly shorter triplet lifetimes (τt) than the parent 1,3-cyclopentadiyl , which is being rationalized on the basis of changes in the “through-bond” coupling and thus singlet-triplet energy splitting between the radical sites.
