enantio and diastereoselective synthesis of vinyl cyclopentenols by a Heck reaction was accomplished. It features the use of chiral N,N-ligands, and a delicate balance of non-covalent interactions of the cationic palladiumcomplex with the nucleophilic oxygen group of the substrates. VCD played a critical role to establish the relative and the absolute stereochemistry of the Heck products.
