  A compound having the following general formula (I): wherein X is -(CH2)n- in which n is 1 or 2 or X is --CR4=CR5- in which R4 and R5 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl; R and R, are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl; R2 and R3 are independently lower alkyl or R2 and R3 are taken together with the carbon to which each is attached to form a ring containing from three to six carbon atoms. The compounds are useful as cardiotonic, antihypertensive, and antithrombotic (platelet aggregation inhibition) agents.
