  AbstractCitricolic acid, a metabolite of the fungus Mycena citricolor, has been shown to possess structure 1. The structure was elucidated by a combination of physical and Chemical methods. Citricolic acid (1) is a new type of natural product which appears to be a degraded steroid. A possible biogenesis of 1 is discussed.
