    A novel compound excellent in heat resistance, resistance to volatilization, and compatibility with a resin component and useful as a UV absorber and a synthetic resin composition containing the compound are provided. Specifically provided are a triazine compound of general formula (1), preferably general formula (2) and a synthetic resin composition containing 0.001 to 20 parts by mass of the compound per 100 parts by mass of a synthetic resin. The details of formulae (1) and (2) are as defined in the description.

    A flame retardant composition includes, as essential components having two specified types of phosphate compounds; silicon dioxide or metal oxides; and at least one member selected from among higher aliphatic carboxylic acids, metal salts of higher aliphatic carboxylic acid, higher fatty acid amide compounds, and esters between mono- or polyhydric alcohols and higher aliphatic carboxylic acids. This flame retarder composition is free from secondary agglomeration, and does not need incorporation of a halogenated flame retarder that when blended in a synthetic resin, releases harmful gas at combustion. The flame retardant composition enables imparting flame retardant properties to synthetic resins with the use of a small amount of flame retarder.

    A process is provided for improving the resistance to deterioration when exposed to weather and the adherence to other materials of polypropylene, particularly in the form of moldings, which comprises subjecting a surface of polypropylene to the action of activated oxygen gas at a temperature below about 100 °C in the presence of an N-alkyl or N-acyl 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl piperidyl compound for a time sufficient to improve such weather resistance and adherence.
