Alkylation of acetylacetone, and of a number of related triketones and lactones, with 3,3-dimethylallyl bromide and 3,3-dimethylallyl diphenyl phosphate gives C-alkylated products under a variety of experimental conditions. The C- and O-(3,3-dimethylallyl) derivatives of acetylacetone undergo ready cyclisation and Claisen rearrangement reactions, respectively, to give products whose isoprenoid part-structures

Alkyne acids 11 were prepared in an enantioselective fashion from allylic ester derivatives 18 or 20 by Ireland-Claisen rearrangement, followed by Si-assisted elimination of HBr. The title compounds are attractive ring D synthons for an ongoing synthesis of cobyricacid.

Synthesis of β-Trifluoromethylthio- and β-Trifluoromethylseleno-α,β-unsaturated Ketones through Copper-Mediated Trifluoromethylthio(seleno)lation
An efficient and convenient synthetic methodology has been developed with which to construct -trifluoromethylthio- and seleno-,-unsaturated ketones through copper-mediated trifluoromethylthio(seleno)lation of -bromo ,-unsaturated ketones. The corresponding ketone products were isolated in moderate to good yields and were efficiently converted into valuable alcohols.
