    We have developed a new methodology for producing new molecules that bind to dsDNA using DNA-templated click chemistry. The click reactions between the minor groove binding peptide and acridine intercalators were accelerated by the addition of dsDNA. Furthermore, the resulting peptide-acridine conjugate showed a slightly stronger binding to dsDNA. These results indicate that the DNA-templated click chemistry is applicable for screening new binding molecules. (C) 2008 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

    The present invention relates to a system for use in treating a blood product containing a pathogen inactivating agent comprising a biocompatible housing and an adsorbent medium having (1) adsorbent resin particles capable of adsorbing the pathogen inactivating agent, and (2) an inert matrix in which the adsorbent resin particles are immobilized; wherein the immobilized adsorbent particles have a diameter from about 100 µm to about 1200 µm when the system is configured as a batch apparatus, and the immobilized adsorbent particles have a diameter from about 1 µm to about 200 µm when the system is configured as a flow-through apparatus; and wherein said blood product substantially maintains a desired biological activity after treatment with said system.

    Methods and devices are provided for reducing the concentration of low molecular weight compounds in a biological composition, while substantially maintaining a desired biological activity of the biological composition. The device comprises highly porous adsorbent particles, and the adsorbent particles are immobilized by an inert matrix. The matrix containing the particles is contained in a housing, and the particles range in diameter from about 1 μm to about 200 μm. The matrix can be fibrous, and the particles can have a surface area greater than 750 m 2 /g and a pore diameter between about 25 and 800 Å. The device can be used to adsorb and remove a pathogen-inactivating compound that is a nucleic acid-binding compound such as psoralen, an acridine derivative or a dye from a biological composition such as a blood product.
