Among the hydroxylated cineoles, microbial and animalmetabolites of cineoles were included. From ent-kauranes, a plant growth inhibitory diterpene alcohol, (−)-16α-hydroxy kaurane was obtained along with 16α-kauran-13α-ol.

The present invention relates to a 3'-ketoglycoside compound defined by formula (I) and its use for controlled release of alcohols, in particular alcohols showing an insect repellent effect. Eucalyptus as biomass. Novel compounds from microbial conversion of 1,8-cineole.
Conversion of 1, 8-cineole (1) by a strain of Aspergillus niger was investigated in connection with the biomass utilization of Eucalyptus plants. Two novel alcohols, 3-exo-(5) and 3-endo-hydroxycineole (6) were isolated from the culture broth and identified by interpretations of their spectral data. Furthermore, hydrogenolysis of 6 afforded p-methane-3, 8-e"-diol (8) which has been isolated as a plant growth inhibitor from Eucalyptus citriodora.
