An intermolecular [2+2] cycloaddition reaction for the synthesis of 1,2‐dimethylenecyclobutane derivatives from the commercially available starting materials aryl acetylenes, nBuLi, formamides, and trimethylsilyl cyanide (TMSCN) has been achieved.
