    A process for the preparation of allyl ethers of the formula R--O--CH.sub.2 --CH.dbd.CH.sub.2).sub.n in which R and n are as defined in claim 1, by reacting hydroxy compounds of the formula R--OH).sub.n with allyl chloride or allyl bromide by phase transfer catalysis, 0.8 to 5 mols of allyl chloride or allyl bromide, 1 to 6 mols of aqueous or solid sodium hydroxide and, as the phase transfer catalyst, 2 to 20 mol % of a quaternary ammonium salt, a quaternary ammonium base or a crown ether being employed per hydroxyl equivalent of the compound of the formula II, and the reaction being carried out in the temperature range from 20.degree. to 100.degree. C.

    A polymerizable dental material with reactive paste-forming agent, hardened dental material and the use thereof. A polymerizable dental material containing at least one paste-like component A and at least one paste-like component B is described, whereby component A contains at least one initiator of the radical polymerization c) selected from the group of barbituric acid derivatives and/or of malonyl sulfamides, and whereby component B contains an organic compound d) comprising at least one acrylic acid ester and/or methacrylic acid ester, at least one metal compound e) and at least one halide and/or pseudo halide compound f). The polymerizable dental material is characterized in that component A as reactive paste-forming agent contains at least one organic compound a) derived from maleic acid and/or fumaric acid and/or itaconic acid, and/or at least one compound comprising at least one allyl and/or methallyl residue b). The polymerizable dental material can be stored easily and it quickly hardens after components A and B are mixed under mouth conditions, and forms hardened masses having excellent mechanical properties. In particular, these can be used in crowns and bridge materials or as dental cement.
