    Herbicidally active pyrazolidine-dione or pyrrolidine-dione compounds or derivatives thereof The present invention relates to a compoundof formula (I): wherein CKE is of sub-formula (A) and/or (B): wherein: R1 is fluorine or chlorine; R 2 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, cyclopropyl, ethynyl, cyano, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, C 1-C 3 alkoxy, C1 -C 2 fluoroalkoxy, C1 -C 2 alkoxy-C1 -C 3 alkoxy-, or C1 fluoroalkoxy-C1 -C 3 alkoxy-; and X is NR 4 or CR5 R 6; wherein R 3, R 4, R5 and R 6 are as defined herein; wherein the compound of formula (I) is optionally present as an agrochemically acceptable salt thereof. These compounds are suitable for use as herbicides. The invention therefore also relates to a method of controlling weeds, especially grassy monocotyledonous weeds, in crops of useful plants, comprising applying a compound of formula (I), or a herbicidal composition comprising such a compound, to the plants or to the locus thereof.

    Reaction of 4-aryl-3,5-dihydroxypyrazoles with α-arylmalononitriles led to a series of 2,6-diaryl derivatives of 1(3)-oxo-3(1)-hydroxy-5(7)-imino-7(5)-amino- 1H5H(3H,7H)-pyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazole. Spectral results and tautomerism of these new products are also discussed.
