A synthetic method for obtaining a wide variety of isothiazoles by the Rh-catalyzed transannulation of 1,2,3-thiadiazoles with alkyl, aryl, and heteroaryl nitriles, which proceeds via an α-thiavinyl Rh-carbenoid intermediate, was developed.
