A new route to the zizaane sesquiterpenes: An efficient synthesis of (±)-isokhusimone

A novel route to the zizaane sesquiterpene skeleton is demonstrated with a nine-step synthesis of (±)-isokhusimone (2) from norcamphor in an overall yield of 35%. This constitutes a formal synthesis of (±)khusimone (1).
