    The present invention relates to a process for preparing at least one cyclic compound with Z cycles and 7 to 16 carbon atoms with a keto group, at least comprising the stages: (a1) oxidation of a composition (A), at least comprising one cyclic olefin with Z cycles and 7 to 16 carbon atoms and at least two C—C double bonds, by means of dinitrogen monoxide to give a composition (A1), (a2) separating off the at least one cyclic olefin with Z cycles and 7 to 16 carbon atoms with at least two C—C double bonds from the composition (A1) in order to obtain a composition (A2), and (b) distillative treatment of the composition (A2) from step (a2) in order to obtain a composition (B), comprising the at least one cyclic compound with Z cycles and 7 to 16 carbon atoms with a keto group and less than 1.0% by weight of the at least one compound with Z−1 cycles and 7 to 16 carbon atoms with at least one aldehyde group, where Z can be 1, 2, 3 or 4.

    The present invention provides a method of applying a fragrance to a surface such as skin and/or hair. The method comprises applying to one area of the surface a first composition wherein the first composition comprises at least one first fragrance oil; at least one first cyclic oligosaccharide, wherein the at least one first fragrance oil and the at least one first cyclic oligosaccharide form a complex, which complex is dissolved or dispersed in the first composition; and a first solvent or a mixture thereof, wherein the first solvent or the mixture thereof has a dielectric constant at 25°C of greater than or equal to 43, preferably greater than or equal to 45. The method also comprises simultaneously or sequentially, in either order, applying to the one area or an area adjacent thereto a second composition wherein the second composition comprises at least one second fragrance oil; and a second solvent, or a mixture thereof, wherein the at least one second fragrance oil is soluble or is dispersed at 25°C in the second solvent or mixture thereof. The invention also provides a delivery package and a kit suitable for use in the above-mentioned method of applying a fragrance to a surface. The invention facilitates the achievement of unique lasting fragrance character combinations arising from the combination of the individual fragrance character profiles of the first and second compositions.

    The invention provides a method for improving release, on a surface, of a fragrance from an entrapment structure of at least one fragrance oil and at least one entrapment material. The method destabilises the entrapment structure by providing at least one trigger molecule which preferentially associates with the entrapment material; and/or at least one release agent which at least partially disrupts the entrapment structure. The invention also provides a composition for improving release of a fragrance from a surface. The composition comprises at least one fragrance oil; at least one entrapment material, the at least one fragrance oil and the at least one entrapment material being capable, in use, of forming an entrapment structure on the surface. The composition also comprises at least one destabilising material, which permits formation of the entrapment structure on the surface but which destabilising material can, in use, destabilise the entrapment structure by providing at least one trigger molecule which preferentially associates with the entrapment material; and/or at least one release agent which partially disrupts the entrapment structure; and at least one compatible solvent which doesn't interfere with the formation of the entrapment structure on the surface. The present methods and compositions can improve fragrance perception, by overcoming the differences in fragrance perception that result from different surface, for example, skin, hydration levels and/or different surface types.
