A mild and efficient domino process has been developed to provide ready access to a library of functionalized 2-aminoindoles in good yields, via SET oxidative cyclization, using readily available ethyl propiolate, tosyl azide, and substituted aryl amine as starting materials. The synthetic power of this one-pot method has been further exemplified in the concise synthesis of biologically important alkaloids
