The use of methyl 3-mercaptopropionate for the conversion of halogenated pyridines to pyridine thiones and thiols is described, and limitations of the reaction discussed. S-Alkylation and oxidation reactions of the products from these reactions are reported.
The instant invention relates to compounds characterized by a general formula I and use thereof as a medicament, preferably for prevention or treatment of heart failure.

Dithiocarboxylation of some halogenated pyridine sulphones with carbon disulphide and sodium hydride leads to the formation of thiomethyl derivatives via Smiles rearrangement of the inititially produced dianion, fragmentation and subsequent methylation. In one instance the pyridino[2,3-b]-1,4-dithiine 7 was obtained. The thioether 2d was also converted into a thiomethyl derivative when subjected to the same reaction sequence.
